FOODYS logoFriends of Open Door Youth Services (Friends) is a 501(c)(3) supporting organization of Open Door Youth Services  (Open Door).  Open Door Youth Services, formerly The Floyd County Youth Services Bureau, was established in 1982 as a shelter for troubled children and youth.  Since its formation in 1982, Open Door has grown to offer numerous programs to youth ages 6 to 18 including residential services, after-school programs, teen court, telemedicine, diagnostic and evaluation services, child abuse prevention awareness and education, and problem solving skills education.

There are several ways to support Open Door Youth Services.

(2) We are always in need of material donations. Donation baskets are a great way to give back.

A back to school backpack: $40

A $40 donation to make sure to outfit one of our residents will everything they need for a new school year including a backpack, notebooks, binders, pens and pencils, a calculator, folders and anything else they need to study hard!

Halloween party basket: $75

A $75 donation will provide our residents with some spooky fun! The Halloween party at Open Door Youth Services includes lots of candy, costumes, a “haunted” house, and pumpkin painting!

Grant a Christmas wish: varies

Please contact us to discuss sponsoring one of our kids for Christmas this year, or provide some Christmas cheer by sponsoring a sugar cookie making party, ornament decorating, an ugly sweater contest, or wrapping paper and gift bags!

Science center passes: $143

A donation of $143 buys a year-long membership pass for the Kentucky Science Center for all the children who are residents at Open Door Youth Services as well as the elementary students in our New Directions program, this gifts benefits up to 500 children in any given year!

Zoo passes: $184

A donation of $184 buys a year-long membership pass to the Louisville Zoo! This gift benefits up to 500 youth as it can be used by our Open Door residents as well as the elementary students in our New Directions program!

Dual passes: $239

The best value! A one-time donation of $239 will buy year-long membership passes for both the Kentucky Science Center and Louisville Zoo for up to 500 youth! This gift would benefit both the residents and elementary school students in New Directions, provide a whole year worth of fun for under $250!

State park passes: $50

For only $50 you can provide a year worth of outdoor fun for up to 500 children! This donation will buy an annual permit to all of Indiana’s 32 state parks for all of our residents and New Directions students!

Sponsor a birthday party: $75

A $75 donation would provide everything needed to celebrate a resident’s birthday in style! Donation would include covering a birthday present unique to the resident, a cake or dessert of their choice, decorations, party games and a special dinner of the residents choosing.

A pizza party: $60

A $60 donation will provide a pizza party for up to 15 residents to help celebrate school achievements, holidays, and other special occasions in their lives!

A going away backpack: $50

A $50 donation will provide all the essentials a residents needs when they leave our facility for their next stop, the donation includes a backpack, hygiene products (shampoo, conditioner, body wash), deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, school supplies, socks and underwear, and journal.

Art therapy basket: $50

Sponsor one of our art therapy sessions! This donation would include supplies and a snack for up to 15 residents to complete an art project that connects creativity to emotional well-being on a group and individual level.
