ukeru
At Open Door Youth Services, all of our staff are trained in Ukeru, a nationally recognized, restraint-free crisis management system. Backed by decades of brain-based research and neuroscience, Ukeru provides a compassionate and effective approach to supporting youth in moments of crisis.
Rather than relying on restraint or coercive techniques, Ukeru emphasizes “comfort over control,” helping staff recognize that behaviors are often a form of communication. The program combines hands-on training, practical tools, and specialized equipment with a deep understanding of the neurological, biological, psychological, and social impacts of trauma and violence.
By implementing Ukeru, we ensure our team has the skills to safely manage and de-escalate crises while preserving dignity, trust, and safety for the youth in our care. This approach reflects our trauma-informed commitment to building positive, supportive environments where young people can begin to heal and thrive.
